If new parents are having some ups and downs getting their new baby feeding or settling comfortably, the Child and Family Health Service can provide a responsive consultation. A nurse will spend several hours with the parent at one of the Child and Family Health Centres or at the family home, helping the parent to understand their baby's needs. This may include provision of breastfeeding support, health information, reading baby's cues and tips on settling their baby.
A Child and Family Health staff member, may recommend this type of consultation for you.
If necessary, after a responsive consultation, parents may be referred to Torrens House for extra support in the residential service.
All CafHS services work in partnership with parents.
The goals of the responsive consultations are:
- to ensure that all parents and caregivers are supported to resolve feeding and settling issues for infants, from birth to one year of age;
- to increase the confidence and knowledge of parents in managing feeding and settling issues;
- to promote parent and infant relationships.
Referral occurs via local Child and Family Health Service staff.
